Unsolicited Credit Offers

Applying for a loan may be the reason you begin receiving unsolicited credit offers.

BankWest customers often ask why they receive numerous unsolicited credit offers after applying for a loan. Rest assured BankWest does not share customers’ financial information. These offers are typically the result of “trigger leads.”

UNDERSTANDING TRIGGER LEADS

Trigger leads are leads provided by credit reporting agencies to lenders and insurance companies who purchase credit reporting data to identify prospective customers. These leads are triggered when a lender pulls a credit report to qualify a customer for a loan.

Under the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA), credit reporting agencies like Equifax, Experian, and Transunion can share an individual’s credit data with companies that choose to purchase it to provide prequalified offers of credit. The intent of this portion of the FCRA is to ensure consumers are aware of the various types of credit offers available to them.

The FCRA also provides you with the right to opt out of receiving such offers.

OPTING OUT OF UNSOLICITED OFFERS

Unsolicited Prescreened Offers

You may opt out of receiving unsolicited prescreened offers for five years or permanently.

National Do Not Call List

You may also add your number to the national Do Not Call list to help prevent trigger leads and other unsolicited sales calls.
